[I-RIM ML] [Meetings] IROS 2024: a celebration of opportunities

Dear Colleagues

given the excellent results of the IROS2024 paper review process, which will allow to present 1890 
papers, we want to share our excitement about this conference, with an unprecedented scope and 
reach. West and East will come together, both socially and scientifically, for a week of scientific, 
technical and cultural exchanges. We have a high number of forums, discussing the global themes that 
robotics can address.

IROS 2024 will be a celebration of the future of robotics leveraging on the opportunities offered by 
the location in the Middle East. It will feature:

*Opportunities for technical exchange:* the quality of the papers selected and the conference format 
will support in depth discussions and exchanges of scientific ideas and application examples. 
Workshop and tutorials will focus on specific technical contents for in depth sharing and learning.

*Opportunities for sustainability*: Following the example of ICRA 2023, we will use part of the 
conference surplus to offset the CO2 footprint of the conference. According to the UAE habit, the 
venue is managed in fully green way. More importantly, we will explore how robotics can be made 
sustainable and accessible, bringing the benefits to robotics to the largest possible number of 
people. We will listen to governments' programs on the diverse challenges of sustainability robotics 
can respond to, from environmental to social.

*Opportunities for employment:* We will offer partial travel support to students and young 
professionals who will have the opportunity to meet potential employers from all over the world 
within an organized Job Fair on the conference ground.

*Opportunities for business*: We organized meetings on funding of research and development, 
motivated by the interest in robotics by the local government. We will encourage one-to-one meetings 
with government members of all participating Countries and with potential investors, to address the 
business aspects of robotics. We are working on simplifying travel and custom procedures and 
investor relations, to facilitate the participation of small companies to IROS 2024.

*Opportunities for families*: Support to families traveling to the conference will be provided to 
accommodate families' preferred way of participation. Childcare services will be made available. The 
traditional Women in Robotics luncheon will offer an opportunity to discuss specific needs and 
further initiatives.

*Opportunities for cultural exchange: *we are developing a strong cultural program to expose the 
conference delegates to the cultural and historical heritage of the hosting Country and of the whole 
region.

*Opportunities for inclusion*: IROS 2024 will be a snapshot of all diversities existing in the 
society and in the Countries sending their delegates to the event. IROS 2024 will be accessible to 
everybody and welcoming everybody. We will offer partial travel support to students and researchers 
from developing countries who have the opportunity to more easily reach the destination of Abu 
Dhabi. Two Forums will address diversity, in a broad sense, and robotics in Africa, specifically.

We hope to see many of you at IROS 2024 to share these opportunities together.
