a proof of concept supervised robotic surgical system for ophthalmology, in
which specific surgical alienating sub-activities that require high
precision are delegated to the robot and carried out autonomously under the
close supervision of a human surgeon, using advanced artificial
intelligence techniques. In particular, we aim to automate frequent and
repetitive intravitreal injections. This work forms the basis of future
developments to automate other ophthalmic operations such as cataracts or
surgical procedures of the posterior chamber of the eye which require high
precision in the surgeon's movements.
