[jobs] PhD Position on "Advanced sensing and wearable feedback devices for
rehabilitation and assessment" at the University of Pisa
The *Department of Information Engineering (DII) of the University of Pisa *is
opening multiple PhD positions in different disciplines.
Among the positions available, there is one on the "*Design and validation
of advanced sensing and wearable feedback devices for rehabilitation and
assessment*".
The envisioned activities for this position, financed by Italian PNRR
funds within the program "Innovation Systems'', which brings together all
the main Universities of Tuscany (Firenze, Pisa, Siena, Scuola Superiore
Sant'Anna) and several companies working in the field of "*Robotics and
automation for health*" , will include the design and validation
of advanced wearable postural and tactile solutions, as well as of haptic
feedback devices, to be used to empower robotics-enabled prosthetic and
rehabilitation solutions, to advance current assessment procedures, to
study human sensory-motor integration in physiological and pathological
conditions. The activities will be performed in collaboration with the
*Bioengineering
and Robotics Research Center "E. Piaggio" of the University of Pisa.*
Ideal candidates should hold a MSc in Robotics, Bioengineering, Mechanical,
Information Engineering (the academic qualification should be obtained by
31 October 2022), with a good background in one or multiple of the
following areas; haptics and robotics; sensors; mechatronics; programming.
Knowledge of human studies and the human sensory-motor system could
represent a plus.

of Pisa*
*The Department of Information Engineering (DII) *of the University of Pisa
(Italy) is an Excellence Center for Research and Higher Education in the
field of Information and CommunicationTechnology (ICT), Robotics and
Bioengineering.
85 professors and 40 post-doc are member of the Department. The main
research fields include Electronics, Applied Electromagnetism,
Communication Systems, Information Engineering, Automation and Robotics and
Biomedical Engineering. DII has promoted six spin-off projects, and it
cooperates with private and public institutions to provide innovative
solutions to key issues in different ICT sectors, and to bridge the gap
between academic and industrial research. The Department is involved in
about 20 European projects (49 in the last three years), 2 ERC, 22 Regional
Projects.
It runs an intense activity in Higher Education for about 4000 students and
90 PhD students.
In 2018 DII was selected by the Italian Minister of Education as
"Department of Excellence" with the project CrossLab, aiming to support the
revolution of Industry 4.0 in Italy by creating interdisciplinary research
labs open to big, medium and small-sized enterprises.
The* Research Center “E.Piaggio” of the University of Pisa* is one of the
oldest interdisciplinary research and technology transfer centers in
Europe, devoted to the training of personnel for careers in Research and
Development. Since its foundation in September 1965, the Center has paved
the way for the convergence of minds by bringing together scientists from
different fields of knowledge, ranging from engineering to mathematics,
medicine and psychology, organising interdisciplinary research towards
applications in Bioengineering and Robotics. The Enrico Piaggio Centre has
long standing experience in managing contracts with international, EU, and
industrial partners. The Center is The group is among the originators of
the modern approach to physical human-robot interaction and advanced
human-machine interaction, with a particular attention to the study of
hands and haptics, human tactual perception, wearable sensing.
