PhD Lower-limb prostheses: Optimal human-in-the-loop co-adaptation

Job description
This 4 years PhD position is a joint appointment between the research group of Prof. Dr. Raffaella Carloni (Robotics Lab <https://es.sonicurlprotection-fra.com/click?PV=2&MSGID=202206201155210139493&URLID=16&ESV=10.0.16.7295&IV=00E6A8BAFE56F34739AEFAAA474C4D93&TT=1655726123384&ESN=s%2FKo879Ikys8fdUkOgUJht9f4%2B%2FvnXniFs2Uv2tu6T8%3D&KV=1536961729280&B64_ENCODED_URL=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cucm9ib3RpY3NyZXNlYXJjaGxhYi5ubC8-LA&HK=A9E8BC186FE492FA885C1E10F5FA60E282F43DCB18AC0F0F406E602888C50660 Dept. Given the great challenge of providing people with lower limb amputation with an artificial limb that can mimic the behavior of its biological counterpart, the PhD project aims at developing a human-in-the-loop approach in which the user and the (control settings and mechanical parameters of the) prosthesis co-adapt to each other in an optimization process.

Qualifications
As this project involves translational research in both engineering and human movement science, the ideal candidate has a strong multidisciplinary interest. Specifically, the PhD candidate must be able to acquire a solid knowledge of the mechatronic background and control techniques, gain an understanding of biomechanics and the movement of people with transfemoral amputation, and have excellent communication skills to discuss and coordinate with engineers and clinicians.

Organisation
Founded in 1614, the University of Groningen <https://es.sonicurlprotection-fra.com/click?PV=2&MSGID=202206201155210139493&URLID=14&ESV=10.0.16.7295&IV=59C97B55D8B637D32E664C463654E37A&TT=1655726123384&ESN=7cWt%2F7O3DHD%2BnNJk%2Be4Vvy3EfcDzF%2B0E9i%2F%2FmfQV1Lc%3D&KV=1536961729280&B64_ENCODED_URL=aHR0cDovL3d3dy5ydWcubmwv&HK=1EB30EA10B1D18B3F0BC929915CF4EBE2C3C6209AD20C95249B94FA0E4500585> enjoys an international reputation as a dynamic and innovative center of higher education offering high-quality teaching and research.
