We are glad to announce that the PhD in Emerging Digital Technologies [1] has open call
to recruit post-graduate students in three different curricula [2]:

• Embedded Systems, focused on design and development of software for real-time embedded systems;
• Photonic Technologies focused on photonic integrated circuits, sensors, photonic communications and telecommunications networks;
• Perceptual Robotics, focused on Human-robot interaction systems, telerobotics and virtual environments.

The call for application 2022 [3] will offer a minimum of 6 [4] fellowships.


In particular the PERCEPTUAL ROBOTICS curriculum welcomes research proposals in the following themes:

- human-robot interaction systems,
- telerobotics and virtual environments,
- intelligent automation systems and artificial intelligence,
- Industry 4.0, Smart Factories, Predictive and Condition based maintenance
- mechanical engineering and intelligent machine design,
- wearable sensing and robotics,
- virtual and augmented reality.


This year, the PERCEPTUAL ROBOTICS Curriculum, in addition to the above topics [4] is soliciting 
research proposals on the following research fields:

1. Robotics and Applied Artificial Intelligence (RAAI) for human robot team collaboration –
Research and Development to create intelligent and semi-autonomous interactive systems
for human activity detection and task collaboration.
2. Vision-based navigation and Scene Understanding for autonomous mobile robotics (and drones) in unknown environment 

3. Drones for autonomous inspection of large-scale infrastructure and structural modelling

4. Robotics and Artificial intelligence for multi-modal mapping and autonomous navigation and exploration applied to the environment monitoring and precision farming context

5.  Novel concepts of exosuits and haptics for rehabilitation, empowerment and active ageing

6. Robotics and AI for telemedicine and remote ultrasound examination
