PhD Opening on Proximity and contact sensing technologies for Human-Robot interaction

The Humanoids and Human Centred Mechatronics Research Laboratory (https://www.iit.it/it/web/humanoids-human-centered-mechatronics) at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) has a fully funded PhD position focusing on the development of Proximity and contact sensing technologies and interaction control tools for Human-Robot Collaboration. The PhD position is linked to the JOiiNT LAB (https://www.joiintlab.com/en/coming-soon/), a research and innovation laboratory recently established between the Italian Institute of Technology and the Intellimech (https://www.intellimech.it/) Consortium to facilitate the robotics technology transfer mission by linking research activities and industrial needs, as well as the training of next generation of robotics and control professionals with advanced technical and scientific skills. Within the JOiiNT LAB, Intellimech and the robotics research limes of Humanoid & Human Centred Mechatronics (https://www.iit.it/web/humanoids-human-centered-mechatronics), Human-Robot Interfaces and physical Interaction (https://hri.iit.it/) and Soft Robotics for Human Cooperation and Rehabilitation (https://www.iit.it/web/soft-robotics-for-human-cooperation-and-rehabilitation) at IIT are partnered together with Confindustria Bergamo, Kilometro Rosso, the University of Bergamo and nine 'Champion' industrial partners.
Young scientists with excellent First/Master degrees in Mechanical / Electrical engineering, computer science, or other related fields and strong interest in mechanism and robot design, and control are welcome to apply to this PhD position. The successful candidate will be involved in the research activities of the JOiiNT LAB and has the opportunity to pursue her/his PhD using state of art robots and customized mobile manipulation platforms developed to serve a number of industrial use-cases.
