Ph.D. Opening on AI, Robotics, and Control for Precision Agriculture @ Roma Tre University

Position

A PhD student position focused on AI, Robotics and Control in Precision Agriculture is currently open at Roma Tre University, Rome, Italy as part of the Italian National Ph.D. on Artificial Intelligence. The Ph.D. position is fully funded for 3 years.  

National AI Ph.D. Overview

Briefly, the National Ph.D. on AI is an initiative of the Italian Ministry of University and Research, focused on different areas of interest called “verticals”. Each vertical has an administrative center along with other associate universities. For the vertical on Environment and Agriculture the administrative center is the University of Naples Federico II, and among the associate universities, there is Roma Tre University with a specific research interest on the interplay between AI, Robotics and Control in the context of Precision Agriculture. Student Profile

The Ph.D. candidate will work at the intersection between AI, Control and Robotics to develop data-driven adaptive control methodologies with performance guarantees for coordinating multi-robot teams in unstructured outdoor dynamical setting to carry out collaborative tasks, e.g., field active monitoring.

The Ph.D. candidate, which will join the research group NEWLINE at Roma Tre University (https://newline.inf.uniroma3.it <https://newline.inf.uniroma3.it/>), coordinated by Prof. Andrea Gasparri, will have the opportunity to be involved in cutting-edge European and National research projects, such as the EU H2020 CANOPIES project (https://canopies-project.eu <https://canopies-project.eu/>) and the Italian POR-FESR project AGRORAMA (http://www.agrorama.it <http://www.agrorama.it/>). The Ph.D. candidate will have the opportunity to engage in scientific collaboration with a very dynamical research group and will benefit from the possibility to interact with several national and international academic and industry partners.

The Ph.D. candidate must hold a master’s degree in Engineering with a solid background in (at least one of) the relevant areas of interest, i.e., AI, Robotics and Control. The candidate should be highly motivated and interested in undertaking innovative and challenging research activities involving theoretical analysis and experimental validation. Excellent mathematical and coding skills (C++/Python, ROS) are encouraged.  Proficiency in both spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of the Italian language is not required.
