A message from Sami is appended below. The proposal philosophy is inclusive, in the sense that all significant groups should be and feel involved, in one way or another. The main management scheme will be cascade funding for a number of agile seed projects, mainly oriented to young PIs from research, startups and SMEs. There will be an important involvement of successful researchers and established companies in drafting the strategies of the network, which has the ambition to lay the fundaments of research and Innovation in robotics and intelligent machines for the next decades. There will not be very significant funding for any single partner. The rough idea is that groups with large dimensions (of the order of 5 independent PIs) should be members of the (large) consortium. They will not have direct funding, but will be able to participate in calls for projects within the consortium. The internal projects will be roughly 2-300K ? in size. We estimate that 60% of the total funding will go towards these cascaded funds. Smaller groups will not be signatories of the grant contract from the start, but will be able to participate in external calls for projects, of similar size as internal. We estimate that 20% of the total funding will be dedicated to external calls. The rest of the resources will be invested in the management of the network, staff, travel and overhead of the beneficiaries that will make the network management. Researchers involved in the strategy and management will not be eligible for participation to the cascade funding schemes. The principle behind all that is that the marginal utility of participation in any of the roles (management partners, research partners, and external) is the same. That is, everyone should be equally happy (and unhappy). In seguito a un workshop sulla robotica riabilitativa tenutosi a Roma, siamo stati contattati, come associazione, dall'associazione AIRETT (ASSOCIAZIONE ITALIANA SINDROME DI RETT), nella persona di Martina Semino, Terapista della neuropsicomotricit?. AIRETT ? l' associazione italiana per le bambine con sindrome di RETT e da un anno ha aperto un centro di ricerca e innovazione a Verona, dove un equipe di terapisti specializzati (tnpee, fisioterapisti, logopedisti, psicologi) coordinati e supervisionati da professori universitari e ricercatori specializzati portano avanti un filone di ricerca e di creazione di tecnologie nuove e/o adattate alle bambine con sindrome di Rett nei diversi ambiti riabilitativi (comunicazione, cammino, postura, motricit? fine). L'associazione AIRETT vuole prendere contatto con I-RIM per poterci? confrontare e discutere insieme di un'eventuale collaborazione per la creazione di ausili tecnologici, esoscheletri per l'arto inferiore e superiore, piattaforme per la riabilitazione telematica. Il centro di ricerca dell'associazione AIRETT ha al suo interno diverse figure interdisciplinari e collabora gi? con alcuni ospedali e dipartimenti universitari. Il centro funziona con i finanziamenti che ottiene attraverso bandi di fondazioni o donazioni (non riceve fondi pubblici) e sta iniziando a partecipare a bandi europei. Quello che sicuramente il centro mette a disposizione sono la conoscenza dei bisogni delle pazienti con sindrome di Rett e le competenze cliniche che servono per progettare dispositivi innovativi e per testarli. Questo messaggio ? rivolto ai soci I-RIM che hanno competenze sui temi citati e che sono interessati a tale possibile collaborazione. Assieme al Consiglio Direttivo, che si ? riunito recentemente a Milano, abbiamo pensato di fare un rapido riassunto degli sviluppi a poco pi? di due mesi dall'incontro di Roma e darvi qualche ulteriore elemento. Al momento I-RIM conta 245 soci. Hanno dato la loro sponsorizzazione al nostro evento di lancio nove aziende tra le maggiori nel settore. Ci sono stati quasi 500 registrazioni ad I-RIM 3D, di cui pi? di cento di giovani neolaureati o laureandi. La esposizione nel Padiglione 9 ha visto di pi? di cento stand ed ? risultato uno dei pi? popolari, apprezzato da moltissimi dei 100.000 visitatori di Maker Faire. Il lancio e le tematiche di I-RIM non sono passate inosservate, non solo nei media, ma anche nelle sedi istituzionali. Come presidente o rappresentanti di I-RIM siamo stati invitati a diversi incontri, tra i quali --21 e 22 Novembre: incontro alla Camera dei Deputati per un convegno organizzato da Fondazione Leonardo su "Statuto etico e giuridico dell'IA". Nonostante il tema "stretto", erano presenti alcuni robotici (tra cui Guglielmelli, Carrozza, Oddo, oltre a me come presidente di I-RIM). Sono intervenute diverse importanti personalit?, tra cui il presidente del consiglio dei ministri. Assieme ai colleghi abbiamo potuto presidiare la locuzione "AI & Robotics" e la visione che le sta dietro, soprattutto nelle commissioni di lavoro (AI for Health, AI for Security) in cui sono pi? rilevanti. --21 Novembre:? convegno su "Intelligenza Artificiale: Investire? in Universit? Ricerca e Sviluppo" dell'Intergruppo Parlamentare in Intelligenza Artificiale, presso la sede delle Commissione Europea a Roma. Hanno parlato il DG Connect Roberto Viola, l'allora Ministro Fioramonti, il presidente Crui, il presidente CNR, la sottosegretaria MIBACT e Rita Cucchiara, Presidente di AIIS. Nell'occasione, Fioramonti ha presentato la decisione di finanziare un Dottorato Nazionale in AI con 12 M?, di cui 4 aggiunti direttamente dal borsino del Ministro. Ci sono 5 linee (AI for Society, Agriculture, Health, Security, Industry 4.0). La robotica (e I-RIM) non appare esplicitamente, anche se AI for Health ? guidata da UniCampus (Eugenio Guglielmelli) e Industry 4.0 ? guidata dal Politecnico di Torino (Barbara Caputo), due dei nostri soci fondatori. Ci saranno bandi per aderire ai consorzi di universit? che bandiranno i dottorati, e immagino che anche su altri temi potrebbe esserci bisogno di macchine intelligenti. Con Rita Cucchiara ? continuato un proficuo dialogo, con l'intesa di collaborare lealmente per cercare finanziamenti nazionali per l'intera area "AI and Robotics". --4 e 5 Dicembre: incontro? ?Esercito motore tecnologico di innovazione?, presso il Centro Alti Studi Difesa a Roma, organizzato dal Capo di Stato Maggiore Esercito Gen. Farina. Sono state discusse prospettive di finanziamento e collaborazione nella ricerca e gli aspetti etici dell'uso dell'autonomia nei sistemi di difesa. --Il 5 Dicembre come presidente di I-RIM sono stato invitato dalla Ministra per l'Innovazione Paola Pisano a presentare le finalit? e le azioni di I-RIM, riscontrando un grande interesse da parte sua e del suo staff. Ci saranno presto altre occasioni in cui sar? possibile a tutti noi di parlare di I-RIM. Per facilitarvi, abbiamo pensato di raccogliere dati da mettere in una vostra presentazione. Guardando al futuro, uno degli aspetti pi? importanti su cui lavoreremo nel 2020 ? l'ulteriore aumento del coinvolgimento del mondo della industria e delle associazioni nel nostro Istituto.
